Still not a fan of life on Mars: a small update

There really is only so much cheerful “look at our life of adventure” I can do–and I reached that point a couple of years back. Not a lot of news, but it turns out I get hemiplegic migraines, which are not fun (but which, after a lot of work at identifying triggers and preventative measures, are at least not a majority of my days now). It sure would have been nice to get a sort of migraine that doesn’t look like a stroke or have anxiety and panic attacks built into the aura phase, but we can’t win them all. kH still has the effects of a TBI. pH isn’t in a hurry to go anywhere (but in fairness–is there something wrong with me?–I don’t mind).

It’s almost always sunny. I know there are people who like that, but those people probably don’t get physically ill after being exposed to the sun after 15 minutes (or less).

The poverty here is mind blowing; it’s the first time I ever lived in a place when there was a significant minority of people without running water.

Our power and water go out with some frequency. Weird things happen. Weird sounds. Weird things appear on the deck. I’ve woken up because something was snoring really loudly; it turned out that it was wild horses just outside the window. There’s a plan to get back to civilization, but our lives are on hold right now.

I will say I get a lot of writing done here. I’m building a model ship (no, really). I still have to cook and bake nearly everything, but pH also cooks and bakes now and that is pretty awesome. Right now we’re watching Dark together (her first and my third watch).

But you know, I could be totally wrong
